Hunger Resource Center Maximizes Impact on Hunger Relief With Healthy Cooking Demos

Northern Virginia Family Service’s (NVFS) SERVE Campus is bringing healthy eating demonstrations and education to the Hunger Resource Center (HRC) in an effort to educate the public on the benefits of nutritional meals. The HRC serves nearly 600 families in Prince William County each month, granting them access to affordable food, nutritional workshops, SNAP benefits enrollment assistance, and now healthy cooking demos every other Wednesday.

Volunteers Supporting Our Shelters

Thank you to Christy Prietsch for her commitment to volunteering monthly at Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter (BCCS). Christy facilitates stress management groups for shelter guests. Participants found Christy’s previous group session on Aug. 17 so helpful that they requested she return to conduct an enhanced stress management session. Thank you, Christy, for teaching shelter guests how to cope with stress and improve their lives!

We were thrilled this month to also have Audi and Rolls Royce volunteers’ support at the HRC, and Occoquan Bible Church and U.S. Marine Corp volunteers help out at the Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center.

Special Thanks to Samantha Fenn and “The Mad Scientists”
